Nobel Committee had doubts about Obama

An article published this morning by AFP, the French global news agency, reveals that only two of the five member Nobel Peace Prize Committee supported the choice of Barack Obama for its award. The other three apparently were opposed but in the end reluctantly went along.

So,  this basically means that Obama is a Nobel Laureate because two guys appointed to the committee by a single party in the Norwegian Parliament decided that he should be. Kind of sheds some helpful light on the “incident.” From the article:

“But Inger-Marie Ytterhorn, who represented the right-wing populist Progress Party on the committee, led the way in objecting to the choice of Obama because she questioned his ability to keep his promises, the newspaper said.

“It also said the representative of the Conservative Party, Kaci Kullmann Five, and Aagot Valle, the representative of the Socialist Left, had objections.

“The choice for Obama was however strongly supported by committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland and Sissel Roenbeck, both representatives of the Labour Party.
